West Highland Way - Mountain Bike Adventure

We just took off to Scotland to ride the famous West Highland Way while the sun was out.

We went light and took just two days.

Starting in Milngaive at 9am our mission was to make the little hostel at the Bridge of Orchey before dusk. About 100km or so. Awesome riding that starts fast and easy and gets progressively steeper and more technical as you head north, with the final 7Km along the shore of Loch Lomond being a hike a bike of classic scrambling quality.

No navigation required, no map board, just follow the arrows along the hard pack trails. We did take a mapdec LESS shelter for emergencies, and for getting away from the midges, but we never needed to use it. Thankfully it weighs so little and I hardly noticed it in my bag.

Day 2 was a fast climbing and technical descending route that left us grinning like kids. The little hike a bike over the Devils Stair case out of Glen Coe took no time, and the rest of the route gave our bikes a real hammering, but all just exciting riding.

We broke 2 rear mech hangers, and bent another, about 5 pinch flats, and some worn out brake pads. So our top tip is to carry these spares, and some extra chain lube!

Here is a little video from Sally that made us smile. We love adventure...
